INSTITUTE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY COMMITTEE (IEHSC)

The IEHSC provides campus-wide guidance on EH&S priorities, including policy, compliance, and resource planning for laboratory and workplace safety. The committee meets twice annually in the spring and fall and submits an annual report of its findings to the President.
IEHSC Updates Environmental Health and Safety Policy Injury and Illness Prevention Program

MEMBERSHIP: The Provost, Chair; Vice-Provost, Vice President of Student Affairs; Vice President of Administration and COO; Executive Director of Audit Services and Institute Compliance; Associate Vice President for Facilities; the Senior Director of Environmental Health and Safety, Associate Vice Provost for Research Policy, OGC, and ASIC. And, periodically, visiting members of the Graduate Student Council, Postdoc Association, and specifically invited guests.

TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES (excerpt from EH&S Policy): The IEHSC is responsible for making recommendations regarding the allocation of Institute resources to maintain environmental (e.g., air emissions, soil contamination, water discharges, hazardous waste management) and workplace health and safety compliance.

TRAINING: Some of the training available by EH&S is required by law, driven by CalOSHA, EPA regulations, and other applicable standards, and is mandatory for employees, researchers, or students in applicable roles. For mandatory courses, individual completion is tracked and reported directly to the Institutional Environmental Health & Safety Committee. Staying current on your required training helps protect you, your colleagues, and the Institute.
